Michael Towbes enjoyed a successful career in civil engineering prior to founding the Towbes Groupin the 1960s. The company continues to apply a strategic yet pioneering sensibility to its work today.

Mr. Towbes had a strong sense of the immense real estate possibilities in the Tri-County area and formed the Towbes Group. The company began developing and building residential, commercial and industrial properties in Santa Barbara, San Luis Obispo and Ventura counties.

Mr. Towbes’ ongoing commitment to the needs of community, attention to detail and dedication to quality has earned him respect and admiration. He was named a finalist for the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year 2010 in the greater Los Angeles region.Among many other distinctions, he also was inducted into the California Building Industry Hall of Fame in 2006.

Under Mr. Towbes’ leadership, the company has developed more than 6,000 residential units and 1.4 million square feet of commercial properties in Santa Barbara and the Tri-County area. There are approximately 2,100 multifamily residential units and 2 million square feet of commercial space in the company’s management portfolio. Grounded in a spirit of philanthropy, the Towbes Group has consistently given back to the communities where we live, work and play.
